Jungholz is unique in the Tyrol, because it is only bordered with the rest of the province by one single geometric point (on the Sorgschrofen Mountain at an altitude of 1631 m above sea level). That is the reason why Jungholz - before Austria's membership in the EC - had economically been linked with Bavaria and Germany in the customs union of 1868. That is the reason why three local Tyrolean banks have their branches in the centre of this small village. Jungholz, consisting of several scattered hamlets, is situated in a depression in the transition zone between the Alps and the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. Jungholz attracts many tourists every year.
