Brixen im Thale (794 m) is situated at the highest point in the Brixental and was first mentioned in 788. Together with the parish church Maria Himmelfahrt with its two towers, the "Dechanatshof" (deanery), show that Brixen im Thale used to be an important religious and spiritual centre of the region. Today Brixen im Thale encompasses smaller villages such as Lauterbach, Hof im Tal as well as several isolated, detached farmhouses on the sunny slopes. Tourism plays an important role in summer as well as in winter. Several small - and medium sized enterprises can be found in Brixen. Every year at the Feast of Corpus Christi the so called "Antlassritt" takes place, during which horsemen ride from the parish church to the Schwedenkapelle Chapel in Kirchberg.
