Castle Siegmundskron lies on a long stretched rock high above the valley. Excavations proof that this place was already used as a site of a castle in prehistoric times. Sigmundskron was first mentioned in a document in the mid-10th century (956) under the name of Formincaria. This is the oldest name for a castle in the Tyrol. The castle received its present name when Duke Sigmund der Münzreiche modernised and enlarged it in the late 15th century. At the moment the ruin is being renovated to host a museum one day.
