Castle Bruck lies on a hill at a place where the Iseltal gets wider and the city of Lienz is situated. At the bottom of the hill there is a bridge after which the castle was named. This bridge has to be crossed to get to the Iseltal. Castle Bruck controls the entrance to the valley. The castle was built in the second half of the 13th century as a residence for the Dukes of Görz, who were the rules of the Tyrol at that time. The castle's outside is characterized by its impressive appearance and the numerous battlements. Today it houses East Tyrol's museum of local history and an art collection of paintings of the two world-famous artists Franz von Deferegger and Albin Egger Lienz.
